MUIÑO Next conference: "Women and ICT in the life cycle"

After many years of gender equality policies why our daughters not want to participate in ICT studies and careers?

This is the key issue to be discussed at this conference. As the participation of women in ICT continues to decline (despite the enormous effort in policy and practical interventions aimed at solving this problem), perhaps it is necessary and urgent to consider the reasons and patterns of the underrepresentation of women in ICT , from different angles and using a new perspective.

Building a new perspective

Since 2007, the Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (IN3) in Barcelona we are working in the review of the factors that influence the participation of women in studies, careers and ICT professions. This past year, with the addition of Juliet Webster, we are comparing the situation with regard to this issue in the UK and Spain. Our framework of analysis is the life-cycle perspective and from it we organize our research aimed at understanding the goals and outcomes of public policies in Spain and the United Kingdom, two countries with very different approaches to this problem.
